Chapter 03

“Open the door.” Shen Shenxing didn’t bother to pay attention to him. He walked down the steps and kicked the car door.

Zhou Shengming came down in a hurry and opened the car door, Shen Shenxing carried Liu Mianmian inside, and he lowered his voice: “Go to the hospital.”

“What?” Zhou Shengming turned around and looked at Liu Mianmian. His eyes were filled with you, beast.

Shen Shenxing gave him a look, and the car immediately rushed out like an arrow off the string. Zhou Shengming stepped on the gas but didn’t forget to ask: “What happened to her?”

“She ate spicy food.” Shen Shenxing hugged her and raised his hand to wipe off the cold sweat on her face. Liu Mianmian was so uncomfortable that she couldn’t straighten up, her brain was buzzing, and she couldn’t hear what the people were saying. She could only feel the strong arm holding her tightly and a warm hand constantly wiping her sweat.

The smell of hot pot from both of them permeated the car, and Zhou Shengming and Duan Jianzhou were at a loss for words.

Liu Mianmian got emergency treatment, and the three seemingly indifferent and handsome rich kids stood outside the door, staring at the lit-up light sign in a moment of silence.

After being pushed out, Liu Mianmian didn’t dare to look Shenxing in the eye but only repeatedly whispered thank you and sorry.

Zhou Shengming hurriedly replied to her: “It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s no more than the exertion of lifting one’s hand. We were thinking about playing games when we returned to the dorm. Even if I send you over, I can still…”

(t/n: the exertion of lifting one’s hand means little effort.)

Duan Jianzhou slapped the back of his head to signal him to shut up. Zhou Shengming was unwilling and wanted to fight with him. Still, Duan Jianzhou didn’t pay attention to him and followed Shen Shenxing into the ward.

The nurse changed Liu Mianmian to a hospital bed, with an IV drip on the back of her hand, and where the needle pierced her skin was faintly painful.

Zhou Shengming was so nervous that he sat on the hospital bed with his butt: “How do you feel now? Are you still uncomfortable?”

“I’m much better, thank you.” Liu Mianmian didn’t dare to look at anyone, she was staring straight at the vase in the corner, and her delicate white ears were slightly red. Zhou Shengming’s mind fluttered, and before he could say a few more words, Shen Shenxing lifted him up.

“Go back.”

“Little King…” Under Shen Shenxing’s gaze, he resentfully shut his mouth and walked away.

The ward was excessively quiet, and Liu Mianmian had a million regrets in her heart. She overestimated the tolerance of her stomach and the brutality of the hot pot spicy base. She never wanted to get involved with hot pot again in this life. Even if she wanted to eat it, she would only order a mandarin ducks pot.

(t/n: mandarin ducks pot has a divider, in which half is spicy and the other half has mild soup.)

“Military training tomorrow?” Shen Shenxing spoke up.

Liu Mianmian returned to her senses and wondered how he knew. But she quickly understood. It wasn’t difficult guessing that since she was a freshman, she nodded: “Hmm.”

“It’s so late. You should go back to bed first.” She said.

It seemed that he wanted to sleep a long time ago. Because of herself, his time had been delayed again and again. He should be too sleepy by now. Shen Shenxing returned her mobile phone and bag to her: “I’ll ask your instructor for leave. You shouldn’t go tomorrow.”

“I…” Liu Mianmian still wanted to say something, but Shen Shenxing handed her the bill: “Take a picture and just ask.”

Liu Mianmian obediently did as she was told. After taking her to leave, she repeated it in the small dormitory group, but no one responded. After sending the message, Liu Mianmian was a little sleepy and fell asleep on the bed unconsciously.

The young lady’s sleeping face was peaceful, her long eyelashes cast a small light shadow under the eyes, her skin porcelain white, full lips lightly pursed, beautiful eyebrows slightly frowned. It looked like it was hard to even fall asleep.

Shen Shenxing lazily leaned against the wall. He looked at Liu Mianmian for a long time and finally lowered his head and retracted his gaze. He lifted the quilt and lay down on the bed next to her. He didn’t sleep all night last night, but now he closed his eyes but couldn’t sleep.

She really couldn’t remember what had happened before? Her marriage certificate should still be in her bag in her dorm room.

When Liu Mianmian woke up, the room was empty, but the nurse came in to remind her that she could leave. Liu Mianmian said thank you. As soon as she put on her shoes, a sleepy young man pushed the door in, and she bent over. Shen Shenxing raised his eyebrows. From this angle, he could just see the soft lines of the young girl. He moved his gaze away: “Awake?”

“Hmm.” Liu Mianmian’s back was straight, her hands were placed in front of her body in a disciplined manner, and her head was slightly lowered, revealing a small section of the back of her white neck.

Shen Shenxing didn’t say anything. He took her to eat some porridge and finally sent her to the downstairs of the girls’ dormitory.

Shen Shenxing raised his chin slightly and put his hands in his pockets, gesturing for her to go up. Liu Mianmian nodded and turned around to walk towards the dormitory entrance. Shen Shenxing stood lazily in place, squinting his eyes to see her off.

The young girl walked two steps, suddenly turned around, and trotted back. Liu Mianmian looked him straight in the eye: “Yesterday, you helped me so much. I still don’t have your contact information…”

The young man looked at her for a long time.

“Give me your phone.”

Liu Mianmian hurriedly handed him the phone with only 1% battery left, and Shen Shenxing entered a string of numbers. After adding it to the contacts, he returned the phone to Liu Mianmian: “Go back.”

She took the phone, the low battery had just completed its mission, and the shutdown screen was reflected in her eyes. Liu Mianmian held the phone, bowed to him, and quickly flew into the dormitory building. The dormitory auntie asked her a couple of questions. After Liu Mianmian finished explaining, she pressed the elevator to go upstairs.

The dormitory was near the playground, so after charging her phone, Liu Mianmian opened the window and looked out. There was no longer the shadow of Shen Shenxing at the bottom of the building, so she retracted her head and leaned against the window in a daze.

Shen Shenxing, the name sounded familiar, but where did she hear it before?

Liu Mianmian turned on her phone and clicked on her contacts. After searching for a while, she finally found a suspicious phone number that looked like Shen Shenxing’s, with the note “Brother Shen.”

“…”

She decisively changed it to “A person whose name she suspected she had heard.”

Liu Mianmian’s stomach was still a bit uncomfortable. She washed her hair, took a shower, and rested in her dorm room. She checked her various documents and information and found that the age on her ID card turned out to be twenty years old.

At lunchtime, her roommates came back from the military training. Cheng Xin was a cheerful girl who was 1.80 meters tall (5ft11) and had a more manly personality. Yin Li was small and looked cute and adorable, and she had a gentle and demure personality and said only a few words. The bedroom was a quadruple room, and Qiu Ru hadn’t come back.

Cheng Xin came in and hugged her. She touched Liu Mianmian’s long hair: “Oh, my Mianmian, you’re finally back. How are you? Are you still uncomfortable now?”

Yin Li followed with a concerned look: “Mianmian, we were already asleep when you sent the message last night, and we didn’t reply to you in time. Sorry.”

“It’s okay.” Liu Mianmian shook her head with a light smile: “I was afraid you guys would worry. I didn’t pay attention to the time when I sent the message. I’m much better now.”

Cheng Xin sat down on the stool, slightly lifting her chin just at eye level with Liu Mianmian: “You said yesterday that you had something going on at night. How come you were still admitted to the hospital?”

Liu Mianmian’s ears were flushed, and she pinched her clothes embarrassedly: “When I was coming back, I ate spicy hot pot outside.”

The two of them understood, laughed, and joked: “The slightly spicy is equivalent to your spicy from where you’re from. You’re like a newborn calf who doesn’t fear tigers and asks for a spicy soup base. It would be strange if you didn’t end up in the hospital. I’m a local and can’t stand spicy soup base.”

(t/n: a newborn calf who doesn’t fear tigers means young and fearless.)

The three of them laughed and joked, and Cheng Xin invited her to go out for lunch. Liu Mianmian touched her stomach and didn’t refuse.

They didn’t see Qiu Ru, so Cheng Xin complained quietly: “She’s just jealous of your beauty. Don’t pay attention to her, who hasn’t come across an exotic flower when they live in the dormitory.”

“Yesterday, she talked about you in a bizarre way. I would have slapped her on the face a long time ago. You have such a good temper.”

It was lunchtime, and the restaurant next to the school was full of people. Cheng Xin waved her small hands and led the two to a distant old store.

The decoration of the old shop was simple, there weren’t many people, and the environment was peaceful and quiet. Cheng Xin said: “This is a good place that only locals know about, like those freshmen, if they don’t have any seniors to lead the way, they definitely won’t know about this place.”

After chatting for a while, someone sat down at the back. As soon as Liu Mianmian wanted to turn around, she heard Yin Li whisper in her ear: “Don’t turn around.”

Liu Mianmian’s body stopped, not knowing what to do.

Yin Li coughed lightly, her face slightly flushed: “There’s Senior Fengyun from our school sitting behind. They’re looking at you.”

“They’re openly looking at you.” The strange smile was creepy. After Liu Mianmian heard this, she relaxed and let them look at it.

Zhou Shengming lowered his voice bitterly: “Little King of Hell, is that the little sister you took care of yesterday? Looks like she’s our school sister.”

Shen Shenxing glanced at him and didn’t say anything. Zhou Shengming, as if he didn’t know what danger meant, continued to say cheekily: “Shall we go over and share a table? Anyway, we’re still acquaintances. Yesterday I also sent her to the hospital… Ouch, Duan Jianzhou, you dare to hit Dad?!”

Duan Jianzhou quietly drank his tea, not even giving him a straight look.

The people at the back table settled down. Yin Li whispered and asked Liu Mianmian: “Mianmian, how long are you going to be on leave?”

“… For half a day.” The instructor only gave her half a day off, and she had to get dressed for military training in the afternoon. The sun in September was so vicious that she would sweat so much just after standing for a while. Still, Liu Mianmian had several sunscreens in her suitcase, which was enough to support her through it.

When Cheng Xin was ready to pay after the meal, the boss told the trio with a smile: “Someone has paid for you.”

“Who?”

“The young man at the table across from you.”

“Why did they invite us?” Liu Miammian asked, and the boss, who knew, smiled politely at her.

On the contrary, Cheng Xin and Yin Li looked thoughtful. After arriving at the dormitory, they were only half an hour away from the afternoon military training. The three of them hurriedly got twenty minutes of sleep, and at 1:50, the sleepy Liu Mianmian was woken up by Cheng Xin. She didn’t even have time to çtake a sip of water, and she was pulled out of the dormitory in a hurry.

When she ran to the playground, Liu Mianmian was too dazzled by the sun to see clearly what was in front of her. She squinted and ran around the corner when she plunged into a young man’s hard chest.

The pause button seemed to be pressed all around, and all the noise was gone. Even the hand Cheng Xin was holding her was missing.

Liu Mianmian rubbed her forehead and raised her head.

Shen Shenxing bent over expressionlessly. His eyes were at eye level: “You’re hurting me.”
